Throughout the season, the Boston Bruins were a superb home club in the friendly surroundings of the TD Garden. They felt wonderful returning home after winning the first two games of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round series with the Buffalo Sabres on the road.
However, despite taking a 1-0 lead in Game 3, they surrendered the following three goals in a 3-1 defeat. In Game 4 on Sunday, they gave up the first six goals of the game in a 6-1 defeat. That’s nine consecutive goals in three periods on home ice. Embarrassing was an inadequate description.
Trailing 3-1 and returning to Buffalo for Game 5 on Tuesday night, few supporters believed the Black and Gold could win and force the series back to Boston. However, just as you believe they are defeated, they surprise you.
Tied 1-1 after regulation, the game and Boston’s season came down to the next goal. David Pastrnak scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway for a 2-1 victory, making a remarkable move on Alex Lyon to avert defeat and bring the series back to Boston. Following the victory, Pastrnak sent a message to Bruins supporters about Friday night.
David Pastrnak has a serious message for Bruins supporters ahead of Game 6.
Pastrnak appeared on the NESN broadcast after scoring the game-winner to deliver a message to Bruins fans ahead of Game 6 at TD Garden.
Please be loud and patient. “We’re gonna shoot the puck, don’t worry,” Pastrnak told the NESN telecast.
That’s amusing at the start of the statement, but it’s also terribly honest. If there is one thing that Bruins supporters understand, it is that it is not simple to be patient. However, by playing at home and escaping elimination, Boston will get two days of rest before playing at home for the final time this season. They have to play better, right?
