Dan Campbell, head coach of the Detroit Lions, has expressed his desire to see Aaron Glenn get a head coaching opportunity, acknowledging the reality that his coaching staff may not stay intact for much longer. With both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn expected to become head coaches one day, Glenn’s name is once again in high demand as the NFL hiring cycle begins. This week alone, Glenn has lined up four interviews, especially after his defensive game plan against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18 further solidified his credentials.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who coached Glenn as a defensive backs coach with the New Orleans Saints, praised Glenn’s performance, calling his work in the Week 18 game the best possible interview. “You watch the game last night, and there’s no better interview Aaron Glenn could have had. No speech could have been more impressive than that performance,” Payton remarked.
Campbell, who has previously advocated for Glenn’s candidacy in head coaching searches, also spoke highly of him on Tuesday. “Aaron Glenn is not only a top-tier coach, but an even better person,” Campbell stated. “If no one else picks him up, I’d gladly keep him on my staff. But honestly, if he doesn’t get hired as a head coach this cycle, it’s just ridiculous. He’s that good. He has a full understanding of the game—offense, defense, special teams. He’s excellent at managing, communicating, and keeping players disciplined. He’s inspiring and incredibly motivated.” While Campbell would certainly welcome Glenn back, he strongly believes that Glenn deserves a head coaching job now.
