After concluding the regular season on a strong note, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for the games played in December and January, as announced by the league.

In five games during December and January, where the Lions finished 4-1, Gibbs led the NFL with nine scrimmage touchdowns—six rushing and three receiving. He also topped the NFC in scrimmage yards per game (134.8), ranked first among running backs in receiving yards (235), and placed fifth in the NFL in scrimmage yards (674) over that stretch.

Gibbs became the sixth player in NFL history to have 21 games with a touchdown in his first two seasons, joining Hall of Famers Barry Sanders (22 games) and Gale Sayers (21), as well as Maurice Jones-Drew (21), Lions icon Billy Sims (21), and Jonathan Taylor (21).

As a key contributor to the Lions’ offense, Gibbs amassed 1,412 rushing yards on 250 carries, scoring 16 rushing touchdowns across 17 games. He also caught 52 passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns.

The accolades continue to accumulate for the Detroit Lions, who are coming off a historic season with a franchise-best 15-2 record, securing the NFC North title for a second consecutive year and earning the top seed in the NFC, along with a bye week.

Gibbs and the Lions have a week off. Their opponent will be determined after this weekend’s Wild Card games. Due to the NFL’s reseeding system, the Lions will face the highest seed remaining from the Los Angeles Rams, the Minnesota Vikings, the Washington Commanders, and the Green Bay Packers. The game time and date at Ford Field are still to be announced.
