Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions recognize the potential of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn and understand that both assistants are ready for head coaching roles, even though they would prefer to retain them. Glenn, in his fourth year as the defensive coordinator, has become a sought-after candidate, reportedly interviewing with teams such as the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets.
Alex Anzalone, one of Glenn’s key defensive players, expressed strong confidence in his coordinator’s ability to lead a team. During an appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast, Anzalone praised Glenn’s leadership qualities, comparing him to Campbell in areas where the head coach is widely celebrated. “Everything said about Dan—leadership, culture, development—A.G. has those same qualities,” Anzalone remarked. “He’s one of the best coaches I’ve been around, and he’s ready for a head coaching job.”
When Schefter questioned him about the comparison, Anzalone reaffirmed his view. “He has the same leadership skills, command, and culture-setting ability as Dan. He’s learned from Dan and grown under his guidance, and I believe he’s prepared for the next step.”
However, despite the attention Glenn is receiving for potential head coaching positions in 2025, his focus remains on the Lions’ current postseason run. After a dominant defensive performance against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18, which secured the No. 1 NFC seed, the Lions are now preparing to host the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs.
