When Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant visited the Washington Commanders’ training camp before the season, he likely had a sense that the team was poised for something special.

On Saturday, Durant celebrated alongside the Commanders after their stunning 45-31 victory over the top-seeded Detroit Lions in the divisional playoffs. Durant, a Washington, DC native, has long been a loyal supporter of the Commanders. This victory over Detroit was particularly satisfying for Durant after a pregame exchange with Lions’ running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Following Gibbs’ touchdown in the first quarter, the Detroit player mocked Durant by replicating his signature pregame dance. Durant, not one to hold back, took to X (formerly Twitter), writing that he was “already sick” of Gibbs. Later, Durant posted a video of himself performing his trademark dance, accompanied by the caption: “Have a great night, Detroit.”

The post quickly gained traction, with over 5.1 million views as of this writing. Fans pointed out the coincidence of the Suns’ victory over the Detroit Pistons, 125-121, on the same day.

One fan joked, “Gave them 2 L’s tonight.”
Another commented, “You’re such a troll, Big bro.”
A third added, “What a BURN!”

However, not everyone was amused by Durant’s post. Some critics took aim at his NBA career, with one saying, “KD might finally win a real ring, and it won’t even be his.” Another fan quipped, “U requesting a trade to the Commanders now?” while someone else remarked, “Commanders won’t win it all, and we’ll be saying the same to you when you don’t either.”

The Commanders, led by star quarterback Jayden Daniels, are headed to the NFC Finals for the first time since their Super Bowl win in 1992. Meanwhile, Detroit had a rough night all around.
