NFL Makes a Decision That Brings Good News for Lions QB Jared Goff

In an update regarding the Detroit Lions’ playoff game against the Was uphington Commanders, there is now some positive news for quarterback Jared Goff. The Lions suffered an unexpected defeat to the Commanders in their first playoff game, with a 45-31 final score. Despite being favorites by double digits and playing at home, the loss left many Lions fans disheartened. However, the NFL recently took action regarding a controversial play involving Goff, offering some small sense of justice.

Commanders Player Fined for Illegal Hit on Goff

During the divisional playoff matchup, Washington linebacker Frankie Luvu was not penalized for a hit on Goff that many fans believed should have been flagged for roughing the passer. This hit occurred just before a pick-six that shifted the momentum of the game. Although no penalty was called at the time, the NFL has now fined Luvu $16,883 for delivering a “blow to the head/neck” of Goff.

While this doesn’t change the outcome of the game, it at least confirms that the hit on Goff was not legal and acknowledges the missed penalty. NFL analyst Tom Pelissero pointed out that the non-call on this play was a crucial factor in the Commanders’ surprising victory.

Luvu was also fined an additional $16,883 for an illegal hip-drop tackle on Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, which occurred on the Lions’ subsequent possession. Although no penalty was called for this action either, the Lions quickly responded by scoring a touchdown.

Additionally, Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was fined $25,355 for unsportsmanlike conduct after making an obscene gesture during a 61-yard touchdown run.

Jared Goff Reflects on the Loss and Dan Campbell’s Accountability

After the game, Goff expressed disappointment and shared his thoughts on head coach Dan Campbell’s decision to take the blame for the loss. “He is, and he shouldn’t do that, but that’s who he is,” Goff remarked. “We feed off his energy, and he cares deeply about us.” Goff acknowledged the Commanders’ strength but emphasized that if the Lions had played their best, the result could have been different. He added that the team was deeply disappointed in themselves but appreciated Campbell’s unwavering support.
