The Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions have made significant trades before, and speculation is growing about another potential deal. With uncertainty surrounding Cooper Kupp’s future in L.A., a recent projection suggests he could land in Detroit.

The last major transaction between these teams reshaped both franchises, sending Matthew Stafford to the Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and three draft picks, two of which were first-round selections. That trade became one of the most pivotal in NFL history.

Now, the Rams find themselves in a familiar position. Kupp, a veteran wide receiver, has been the subject of trade speculation since the season concluded. After an injury-plagued year with diminished production, his tenure in Los Angeles might be nearing its end.

Marissa Myers of TWSN suggests that Kupp may not even be traded. Instead, she believes the Lions could acquire him if the Rams decide to release him.

“Kupp turns 32 in June and is coming off another injury-riddled season where he averaged just 59.2 receiving yards per game—the lowest since his rookie year in 2017—totaling 710 yards. His contract makes it challenging for another team to trade for him, but if he’s cut, Detroit seems like the logical destination,” Myers stated.

Kupp’s contract has been widely discussed by analysts, particularly following the Rams’ playoff elimination. Now, the franchise faces a decision. With Puka Nacua emerging as a cornerstone for the future, does Kupp’s presence hinder younger receivers’ development?

The Rams already have Jordan Whittington on the roster and are expected to retain either Tutu Atwell or Demarcus Robinson instead of letting both enter free agency. Meanwhile, Detroit, still reeling from a disappointing playoff exit, could see Kupp as the missing piece to elevate them further.

Myers argues that adding Kupp would give the Lions a formidable trio alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, providing Goff with another reliable target in crucial moments. She also believes that if Kupp wants to close his career with a legitimate Super Bowl contender, Detroit offers him the best chance to do so.
