During the 2024 NFL regular season, the Detroit Lions rose to the top of the NFC North with a combination of solid passing, running, and defense. However, a series of nearly 20 injuries led to their 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round.
On a recent episode of the St. Brown Podcast, Amon-Ra St. Brown was joined by his brothers, Osiris and Equanimeous, where they discussed the possibility of the Lions opening the 2025 NFL season. Amon-Ra suggested that there’s a good chance the Lions might face off against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
In a lighthearted moment, Equanimeous jokingly warned Amon-Ra, “You don’t want that smoke,” referencing the potential matchup. The trio agreed that the Lions are the likely contenders for the opening game. Then, Equanimeous made a comment that sparked some controversy, hinting that the Lions might have had a different outcome had they been fully healthy during the NFC Championship.
Amon-Ra added, “With our full defense, you’d see how that would play out,” referring to the Lions missing key defensive players throughout the season, including Aidan Hutchinson, and the 13 players who were injured on that side of the ball.
This exchange ignited a flurry of fan reactions on social media. Some defended the Lions, claiming that a healthy team could’ve won the Super Bowl, while others were quick to trash talk, reminding Amon-Ra that the Eagles had already won the championship. There were comments like, “The Eagles will beat the Lions,” and others encouraging Amon-Ra to calm down, with one fan commenting, “You guys didn’t even make it to the finals, so maybe you’re not the real deal.”
