The Detroit Lions are being urged to consider re-signing former Pro Bowler Jonah Jackson if he is released by the Los Angeles Rams. Jackson, who was drafted by the Lions in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, quickly became a key part of their offensive line. He started every game in his rookie season, earned a Pro Bowl nod in his second year, and continued as a starter for the next two years. After a strong tenure with the Lions, Jackson signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Rams, making him one of the highest-paid guards in the league.
However, Jackson’s time with the Rams has been disappointing. He played only four games in the 2024 season due to injury and allowed nine pressures in that brief span. Now, with Jackson’s future in Los Angeles uncertain, the Lions are being encouraged to bring him back. If the Rams release him, the timing could be right for a reunion. After Jackson’s departure, the Lions signed Kevin Zeitler to a one-year deal, and Zeitler had a solid season. However, Zeitler is heading to free agency, and the Lions may need a reliable veteran to fill the role.
While Christian Mahogany is an option on the roster, he only has two career starts, leaving the Lions potentially in need of a more experienced player. Though Jackson’s injury history raises concerns, his past performance with the Lions suggests that bringing him back could provide stability to the offensive line.
