Lions fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about Myles Garrett joining Detroit.
In recent weeks, Aidan Hutchinson and Amon-Ra St. Brown have both shown interest in having the six-time Pro Bowler Myles Garrett as a teammate. However, the Cleveland Browns have once again dismissed the idea of trading him. During his availability at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry emphasized that the team has no intention of moving Garrett.
“I understand the trade speculation, but our position hasn’t changed. We can’t envision a scenario where parting ways with Myles would be the best decision for the Browns,” Berry said.
Not long ago, the four-time All-Pro and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett, publicly expressed his desire to be traded, citing a preference to play for a more successful team. This led to speculation about a potential trade to Detroit, as the Lions were looking to add another elite pass rusher opposite Hutchinson.
While he didn’t directly mention Garrett, Lions general manager Brad Holmes discussed the difficulty of acquiring top pass rushers via trade at the combine. “As I’ve mentioned before, it’s tough to find those kinds of players,” Holmes explained. “Just because you lose a star pass rusher doesn’t mean another team is going to offer theirs. Those players are essential to a team’s success, and they aren’t easily available. It’s not just about the trade deadline or free agency — those kinds of players are premium assets, and it’s hard to add one to your team, especially financially.”
With the Lions already working on an extension for Hutchinson, Holmes was asked if they could afford to pursue another high-caliber pass rusher.
