The Green Bay Packers have secured their spot in the playoffs following their Week 16 win over the New Orleans Saints. However, their final seeding will depend, in part, on the Dallas Cowboys’ performance in their season finale against the Washington Commanders.
After a 27-25 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17, the Packers hold an 11-5 record and are ranked third in the highly competitive NFC North division. They are tied with the sixth-seeded Washington Commanders, who are second in the NFC East.
If the Packers beat the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys manage to defeat the Commanders, Green Bay will claim the sixth seed. This would be a significant advantage, as they would face the Los Angeles Rams instead of the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that defeated them in the first game of the season.
On the other hand, if the Packers win but the Cowboys lose, Green Bay will remain as the seventh seed.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is fully aware of these scenarios and is hoping that his predecessor, Mike McCarthy, can help out by defeating the Washington Commanders. McCarthy, who coached the Packers from 2006 to 2018 and led them to their last Super Bowl victory in 2011, could be playing his final game as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. LaFleur expressed his gratitude by saying, “Hopefully, Mike (McCarthy) does us a favor,” according to Zach Kruse of Packers Wire.
