Kirby Smart has a difficult road ahead. Georgia lost another young star barely days after a key defender departed for UCLA. Wide receiver Aden Starling resigned on Thursday. This double defeat forces the Bulldogs to rush to restructure their 2027 squad.

Aden Starling, who committed to the Bulldogs in December, resigned from the team on Thursday and has reopened his recruitment. Rumors about the uncertainty of his commitment began last week, and it has been reported that three Southeastern Conference clubs are now interested in the three-star prospect.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the University of Georgia coaching staff for believing in me and offering me the opportunity,” Starling wrote on Twitter. “I’d also like to thank the wonderful fans for all of their affection and support. I appreciate it very much. However, after careful deliberation and reflection on what is best for me and my future, I will be de-committing from the University of Georgia. Please respect my decision. ”

Starling had been touring schools even while he was committed to the Bulldogs. Over the past few months, he has attracted offers from Ole Miss, Missouri, Baylor, Wake Forest, South Carolina, and Kentucky, among others. But the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks are the top candidates for the broad receiver, since he has recently visited both Baton Rouge and Fayetteville.

According to 247Sports’ Composite rating, Starling is the No. 814 overall player in the country, the No. 101 wide receiver, and the No. 106 player in Texas. The prospect played for Shadow Creek during his junior season in 2025, recording 31 receptions for 405 yards and seven touchdowns, with an average of 13. 1 yards per reception in 11 games.

In football, losing one player is quite common. But losing two recruits in a week has hampered Georgia’s advancement. Coach Smart is unconcerned with replacing a single receiver. It is the sudden decrease to just six young players in their future class.

Aside from Starling, the Bulldogs lost a commitment from defensive back Jerry Outhouse last week. Out of nowhere, the defensive back, who is ranked the 15th greatest corner in the country, transferred to the UCLA Bruins. Outhouse committed to the Bulldogs in March, foregoing scholarship opportunities from Texas Tech, Florida, and UCLA.

Following these two decommitments, the Bulldogs now have just six commitments in the class, with five-star running back Kemon Spell leading the group. The Bulldogs are down to just Donte Wright as the only cornerback in the class after Outhouse’s departure. The class also includes offensive tackle Kelsey Adams, offensive lineman Abraham Eisenhower, running back Noah Parker, and offensive tackle Ty Johnson.

Georgia seeks to overturn a commitment from an SEC competitor.

Following the loss of two recruits in as many weeks, the Bulldogs are aggressively pursuing other possibilities, including those who are committed to other programs. The Bulldogs have now made an offer to Tennessee Volunteers quarterback recruit Derrick Baker.

The quarterback from Milton, Georgia, is ranked No. 40 among QBs nationally. He has been committed to the volunteers since February. However, following a visit to the institution in January, he was offered a position by Georgia.

“I think they move a little slower with the way they do things. After visiting Athens, Baker told 247Sports that the individual they provide with an offer should be commitable. “They want to know that they will take them up on that offer. So, they really want to see me toss again and all that. So they’re going out this spring and want me to join them for one of their spring practices. “

Georgia’s position provides it an advantage here. Nonetheless, Baker has decided to stay with the Volunteers. As the Bulldogs seek for additional commitments, they must also work hard to retain the six players in their fold in order to avert a third decommitment.
