According to The Guardian, other Championship teams have contacted Middlesbrough because they suspect Southampton may have spied on additional pre-match training sessions.
The EFL has charged Southampton with misconduct after a staff member was allegedly caught filming and recording a Boro training session before to the first leg of the promotion playoff semi-final.
Middlesbrough allegedly have substantial CCTV evidence, and Southampton are unlikely to challenge the allegation, however they may claim that the person acted alone.
Rival teams have also questioned how Southampton adjusted to opponents’ unexpected formation changes during their 19-game winning streak at the end of the season, albeit this might be attributed to Tonda Eckert’s tactical skill.
Middlesbrough head coach Kim Hellberg described the claimed acts as ‘cheating’ and believes that a simple fine would be insufficient punishment if Southampton is convicted.
The first leg between the two teams ended in a 0-0 tie, with the return leg set for Tuesday at Southampton’s home ground.
