NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford, known for leading the Los Angeles Rams, treasures his role as a father to four daughters: Sawyer, Chandler, Hunter, and Tyler.
Following the Rams’ dramatic Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022, Stafford wasted no time joining his daughters on the field to revel in the moment. The NFL captured the heartwarming celebration on Instagram, showing the girls playing amid showers of yellow and blue confetti while their mom, Kelly Stafford, smiled proudly nearby.
Matthew has often spoken about the impact his family has had on his professional journey. Reflecting on his 2021 trade from the Detroit Lions to the Rams, he told PEOPLE that he wouldn’t have taken such a big step without the full backing of his wife and kids. “They’re the reason I’m here,” he said, crediting them for giving him the courage to pursue new opportunities.
Although fans sometimes ask if he’s hoping for a son, Stafford has said he feels incredibly fulfilled raising his four girls. “Fatherhood has brought the most rewarding moments of my life,” he shared during a 2021 interview with Rams.com. “Having four daughters has changed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.”
Here’s a closer look at each of Stafford’s daughters:
Sawyer and Chandler Stafford (Age 8)
Born on March 31, 2017, Sawyer J. Stafford and Chandler Page Stafford are the couple’s first children—fraternal twins. After struggling with fertility issues, Kelly underwent IVF treatment with Matthew’s support. They announced the pregnancy in 2016 with a charming Instagram post featuring their dogs.
Since birth, the twins have loved matching outfits, whether dressed in baby onesies or coordinating Halloween costumes. Both girls are active in cheerleading and tumbling, following in their mom’s footsteps as a former University of Georgia cheerleader. They’ve also dabbled in T-ball, just like their dad once did.
The twins started Pre-K in 2021 and moved on to first grade by mid-2024. Already, their career dreams are taking shape—Sawyer aspires to be an artist, while Chandler wants to play soccer professionally.
Hunter Stafford (Age 6)
The couple’s third daughter, Hunter Hope Stafford, was born on August 16, 2018. Kelly revealed the pregnancy during an April 2018 family vacation. Known affectionately as “Huntie,” Hunter has a bold and expressive personality, often seen dancing or striking fun poses on her mom’s social media.
Hunter enjoys cheer and tumbling like her sisters but also takes an active interest in football. She’s become known for peppering her dad with questions during games. Her curiosity for the sport has delighted both parents.
After Tyler was born, Hunter embraced her role as a protective big sister, often doting on the baby and rushing to help when Tyler cried.
Tyler Stafford (Age 5)
Tyler Hall Stafford arrived on June 26, 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Matthew later reflected on how challenging it was becoming a parent during such uncertain times.
Tyler quickly stood out, growing taller than many kids her age—landing in the 93rd percentile for height at just seven months old. Kelly regularly shares glimpses of Tyler’s lively and adventurous nature, from snack-time mischief to tackling outdoor obstacle courses.
Like her older sisters, Tyler has jumped into various activities, from soccer to arcade games. She’s also a regular at Rams training camps, cheering for her dad from the sidelines.
In May 2024, Tyler celebrated Mother’s Day by giving Kelly a touching handmade card and enjoying a day at the playground, making her mom feel truly cherished.
