Jared Goff Cracks Top 10 in NFL QB Rankings for 2025, Say League Insiders

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has once again earned recognition as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, according to a new survey conducted by ESPN. In its annual rankings based on input from NFL coaches, executives, and scouts, Goff was placed eighth among quarterbacks heading into the 2025 season—an improvement from his No. 9 spot last year.

“He’s evolved into one of the most polished passers in the league,” said a defensive coach from the NFC who spoke anonymously. “He’s stopped giving the ball away like he used to. He’s dependable, has a strong arm, and he’s not just a traditional pocket passer anymore—he’s become more versatile.”

Goff is coming off a career-best campaign statistically. He posted personal highs in touchdown passes (37), completion percentage (72.4%), yards per attempt (8.6), passer rating (111.8), and Total QBR (68.4). Although he threw 12 interceptions, nearly half of them (5) occurred in a single game against the Houston Texans.

An AFC scout credited Goff’s development to the Lions’ coaching staff, particularly his poise under pressure. “His footwork has really improved, and that’s helped him throw with more precision,” the scout noted. “The coaching staff has done a great job giving him confidence in the pocket, and he’s responded by elevating his game.”

Among NFC quarterbacks, only Jayden Daniels (ranked 5th) and Matthew Stafford (6th) were rated higher than Goff. Interestingly, Goff was slotted ahead of Super Bowl winner Jalen Hurts, who landed at ninth.

No other quarterbacks from the NFC North made the top 10. However, Packers QB Jordan Love was mentioned as a runner-up, indicating he may be just outside the top tier—likely around 11th or 12th.
