New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston spoke candidly following the team’s 34‑27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions, offering insight into the challenges the Giants are facing this season. While the team fought hard, Winston acknowledged that execution and attention to detail were key factors in the defeat.

“One thing that one of my mental coaches, Jim Brogan, always told me … success is in the struggle,” Winston said. “This team is enduring certain trials, and I have to do my role better. We all have a part in this. The coaches are putting us in a great position to succeed, and collectively, we just have to find a way, and we will.”

Winston emphasized the Giants’ urgency for a win, noting the importance of approaching games with focus and determination. “We are desperate for a victory,” he explained. “This is one of the best teams in the NFL. We came here on a mission, and we didn’t complete that mission. We have to find a way, and whatever it takes, we are willing and able to do it.”

He also addressed a key missed opportunity late in the game, reflecting on the importance of execution in tight matchups. “Coach Kafka’s message is to ‘leave no doubt.’ Today, we left some doubt out there. We were on the 3-yard line with the chance to seal the game, and I missed a throw to Theo Johnson. That’s the detail and execution required to win tough NFL games.”

While Winston did not mention any Lions player by name, he acknowledged the challenge posed by Detroit. His remarks show accountability and focus on improvement as the Giants continue their season, highlighting a commitment to learning from mistakes and fighting for victories in upcoming games.
