The arrest of rookie Jesse Rusinek is a challenge for the Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team. On suspicion of driving while intoxicated with an open container of alcohol on campus, the 19-year-old was taken into custody early Monday morning.

“We’re trying to handle that internally, looking at everything there is to look at about it,” head coach Tim Tadlock said on Wednesday, the first time he’s spoken since the arrest. On Monday, Jesse Rusinek was charged with a Class B misdemeanor offense of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol with an open container of alcohol and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Later that day, he was freed on bond, according to prison logs.

For the Red Raiders, Rusinek plays left-handed pitcher and outfielder. With 1 home run, 7 RBI, and 2 stolen bases, he has a batting average of . 435. He has a 6. 75 ERA and a 0-0 record in two starts on the mound.

This week, the Red Raiders were off, but they return home this weekend for a three-game series against Penn State. The first pitch will be at 6:30 p. m. on Friday, followed by games at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday and 1:00 p. m. on Sunday.
