Julian Caldwell will be added to the pipeline of in-state skill who will compete for Texas Tech.
On May 9, the senior-to-be chose the Red Raiders over Oregon and Texas during a ceremony at Argyle High School. According to 247Sports, he received 43 offers to consider.

According to Rivals, he is the No. 10 recruit in Texas, No. 13 among wide receivers, and No. 78 in the country in the Class of 2027.
He visited Texas Tech six times, both unofficially and officially, more than any other school. Texas came in second with five, followed by Oregon with three.
ESPN rates him 84, No. 12 in his position, No. 9 in the state, and No. 59 overall on the SC Next 300 list.
Finally, according to 247Sports, he is the No. 31 player in Texas, the No. 30 recruit in the country, and the No. 206 player in the Class of 2027, with a composite score ranking him as the No. 17 wide receiver and No. 93 nationally.
Last season, Caldwell, an Under Armour All-American and MaxPreps All-American selection, had 94 receptions for 1,737 yards and 20 touchdowns. The yardage set a new school record.
He averaged 124. 1 yards per game, 18. 5 yards per reception, and eight games with 100 yards or more receiving. He had 1,938 total yards, including rushing and kick returns for the Eagles, who were 12-2 and regional finalists before losing to Melissa.
His breakout game came in Week 2, when he had 10 receptions for 263 yards and four touchdowns against Midlothian Heritage. He duplicated his four-touchdown performance from the playoffs against Lubbock Cooper.

As a sophomore, he was second on the team in yards (581) and touchdowns (7), averaging 27. 7 yards per grab, according to previous reporting from High School on SI. The Eagles advanced to the Class 5A Division II semifinals that season, losing to Dallas South Oak Cliff.

He is the most recent Dallas-Fort Worth area star to commit to Texas Tech.
Caldwell is Tech’s first wide receiver commitment in the 2027 class. Last year, Forney’s Imari Jehiel and Wollforth Frenship, both Class of 2026 wide receivers, committed to Lubbock.
Texas Tech has a four-deep group of receivers made up of seniors, juniors, and sophomores heading into the 2026 season.
Caldwell is the eighth wide receiver with a 4- or 5-star rating set to be a target in the passing game.
According to previous High School on SI reporting, Joey McGuire’s team has secured commitments from DeSoto running back SaRod Baker, defensive lineman K’Adrian Redmond, and Cedar Hill defensive lineman Jalen Brewster this offseason.
Baker is one of the state’s best skill players, and the No. 2-ranked running back.
The Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year received offers from more than 30 programs and had visits scheduled with Texas A&M and Texas.

Caldwell, when he signs, will be another in-state celebrity wearing Patrick Mahomes-sponsored gear.
Other future Red Raiders besides Baker are Benny Easter Jr. of Humble Summer Creek, quarterback Kavian Bryant of Palestine Westwood, and linebacker Jahdyn Nelson of Houston Langham Creek. Seven of the Red Raiders’ nine pledges are in-state recruits.
The Red Raiders went 12-2 last year, capturing the Big 12 Conference title before losing in the College Football Playoffs.
McGuire was the football coach for Cedar Hill High School in Texas.
