Michigan’s primary point guard, Elliot Cadeau, experienced a health scare just as the team was preparing to head to Indianapolis on Wednesday. An ambulance was observed leaving the building with a member of Michigan’s basketball team, who was later identified as Cadeau.
Although it was an unsettling incident for Cadeau, he has since rejoined his teammates in Indianapolis. During a media session on Thursday, Cadeau revealed he has a nut allergy and had consumed something containing cashews.
“I simply developed some hives, so I went to the hospital as a precautionary measure to prevent any further complications,” he explained.
Speaking to the media as well, head coach Dusty May also assured everyone that Cadeau was doing well.
“It was quite unfortunate for him to endure that situation,” May commented on Thursday. “If this is the most significant challenge we face, then we are truly fortunate. It also highlighted how much his teammates value him; they were, understandably, very worried about such a reaction.
Cadeau’s Importance to Michigan
“But we’re just relieved that he’s alright. We have excellent medical support, and he’s back with us. The young man is a fighter; he’ll be fine.”
It was evident from the outset that Michigan was keen to have Cadeau on their roster. After last year’s starting point guard, Tre Donaldson, entered the transfer portal, the Wolverines quickly secured Cadeau.
He has flourished under Coach Dusty May, achieving personal bests with an average of 10.2 points and providing 5.8 assists per game. Furthermore, he has reached a career high in three-point shooting, making over 37% of his long-range attempts. Prior to joining Michigan, Cadeau wasn’t recognized for his outside shooting, but he has evolved into a reliable scorer from deep for the Maize and Blue.
Cadeau has started every game for Michigan, and his significance has only grown recently, especially after backup point guard LJ Cason suffered a torn ACL. While Trey McKenney has stepped into Cason’s spot, McKenney isn’t a natural point guard, which has meant Cadeau must play extended minutes and diligently avoid foul trouble.
So far, Cadeau has managed this challenge effectively. He has been a crucial component of this Michigan squad, and the Wolverines will rely on another strong showing from him in Saturday night’s game against Arizona. The victor of that match will face either UConn or Illinois for an opportunity to compete for a national championship.
