Two more Ohio State football newcomers removed their black stripes during Student Appreciation Day on Saturday.
Alabama defensive line transfer defensive tackle James Smith has officially been confirmed as a Buckeye, which is a positive since OSU is expected to rely heavily on him on the defensive line this year due to his expertise and need. He joins former Tide colleague, defensive end Qua Russaw, who removed his black stripe earlier this week. Smith had 16 tackles and 2. 5 sacks for Alabama last season.
The other player who lost his black stripe on Saturday was also a transfer. Devon McCuin, a fast wide receiver from UTSA, has already demonstrated that he fits the culture and work ethic of the program and has been invited into the brotherhood. Last year in San Antonio, the Jacksonville, Florida native had 65 receptions for 726 yards (11. 2 average) and eight touchdowns
.
The pair brings the total number of new faces who have shed their black stripes to seven, and with 51 new members of the OSU squad, you may anticipate many more throughout the spring and into fall training. We’ll bring them all to you.
