The Edmonton Oilers are approaching the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the goal of finally overcoming the hurdle, as their previous opponents, the Florida Panthers (Shop Panthers Fan Gear), failed to qualify for the postseason this year.

However, with the club ready to face the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, several questions remain, including the status of one of their top two players, forward Leon Draisaitl, and fellow forward Zach Hyman, who recently returned for the final game of the regular season.

Goaltending, on the other hand, will be an important element of the Oilers’ playoff puzzle, with Connor Ingram expected to carry the starting position and Tristan Jarry sitting behind him, exhibiting some unevenness following a mid-season injury.

In addition to their starter and backup, the NHL permits clubs to carry an extra goaltender during the playoffs, providing franchises greater flexibility for practices without jeopardizing the health of their primary goaltenders.

Given the circumstance, the Oilers made what the organization called an emergency roster move on Friday, bringing veteran goalie back to Edmonton.

The Oilers summoned goaltender Calvin Pickard from the Condors on an emergency basis.

According to Sportsnet’s Mark Spector, the decision is not due to injury, since both Ingram and Jarry will be completely accessible for the playoffs.

According to Spector, neither Ingram nor Jarry were harmed. NHL requires teams to have an ‘NHL GOALIE’ as their No. 3 playoff choice. Pickard will fulfill that function for the Oilers.

Pickard, 34, has played in 16 NHL games this season, with a 5-6-2 record, a 3. 68 goals-against average, and a. 871 save percentage.

This season, Pickard has a 4-3-1 record with a 3. 26 goals-against average and a . 886 save percentage while playing for the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.

Edmonton will begin its first-round series against the Ducks on Monday, with Game 1 set to begin at 10 p. m. ET.
