Wisconsin basketball awaits John Blackwell’s landing spot in 2026-27, whether it’s the NBA Draft or another school. However, the Badgers have already lined up his successor through the College Basketball Transfer Portal.

Trey Autry, a Big Ten power, has resigned from George Washington University, with Nick Osen of 247Sports confirming the decision late Thursday.

Shooter Blackwell remains one of the country’s most sought-after transfers. The 6-foot-4 junior averaged 19. 1 points per game during the March Madness stretch. Blackwell scored 31 points in the conference tournament, including one in the final four. Wisconsin and Blackwell knocked out that Illini in the Big Ten semifinals, allowing Illinois to go on its run.

Since entering the portal, some big name universities have been pursuing Blackwell. Duke is a good candidate for Blackwell. Arizona, the Big 12 champion, emerges as a potential destination for the former Badgers standout. Even Wisconsin’s opponent, Illinois, has stepped up its pursuit of Blackwell this week.

Autry, on the other hand, enters the picture to help compensate for Blackwell’s exit. He is another 6-foot-4 prospect who has decided to leave his institution after finishing his junior season.

Autry had lower scoring performance than Blackwell, averaging 11 points per game. However, on March 13, he scored 19 points against NCAA Tournament opponent Saint Louis. He also scored 24 points against Richmond University for the Revolutionaries.

After leading GWU to an 18-15 regular season record, he qualified them for the National Invitational Tournament. New Mexico defeated the Revolutionaries 86-61 on March 22, bringing their season to a close. Autry has emerged as the top contender to succeed Blackwell.
