The Los Angeles Lakers are likely to change their roster this summer.
The Lakers may be one or two moves away from solidifying their status as real title contenders, particularly with Luka Doncic on their side. As they consider other possibilities this offseason, Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale recommends that they seek Miami Heat star center Bam Adebayo.
Favale named three players that each team should target this offseason, with Adebayo topping the Lakers’ list.
Los Angeles requires significant additions on the wings and in the middle. Because the free-agency market has more excellent center alternatives, the former takes precedence.
That is, unless Bam Adebayo proves to be accessible.
The Miami Heat prefer to avoid conventional rebuilds, but if they are headed for another empty-handed summer, it may be time to examine trading their defensive cornerstone as he begins a three-year extension averaging more than 30% of the salary cap. His mid-range-heavy shooting diet raises concerns, but he possesses the abilities to refocus his usage around outstanding playmakers such as Reaves and Luka Dončić.
Adebayo is ready to begin the first year of his three-year, $166 million contract extension with the Heat, which he signed in June 2024.
That agreement binds him until the 2028-29 season. As things stand, the Heat are unlikely to trade the three-time All-Star. If the Heat choose to move on from Adebayo, it will most likely be in exchange for a superstar player rather than draft picks and supporting characters.
Lakers Face Important Offseason Decisions
The Lakers have several questions to answer this summer, and they will have to make some difficult decisions. The expectation is that Los Angeles will prioritize depth above bringing a third star alongside Doncic and Austin Reaves (if he remains).
This summer will be crucial for the Lakers, particularly for general manager and president of basketball operations, Rob Pelinka.
