Bouyea scored 27 points in 40 minutes of play in the Suns’ first of only a handful of victories over the Thunder.
Given what he has shown us thus far, isn’t he deserving of a closer examination, even if you wouldn’t anticipate that from him in a playoff situation?
Additionally, Goodwin has been out for the past two contests, which opens up some potential guard minutes that Bouyea may be able to fill.
He scored three points in eight minutes in Game 1, didn’t play at all in the following game, and only saw one minute of action as the Suns fell 0-3.
Nobody can really say why his minutes are going in the wrong direction, but Bouyea also has the kind of physique that won’t be singled out for attention all the time.
When he tries to defend them, the Thunder will undoubtedly shove him around and knock him off his own places.
However, he has the kind of length that may give Shai Gilgeous-Alexander problems, and in reality, he can’t be any worse than what we’ve seen from Jalen Green on that side of the court thus far.
We know we’re grasping at straws here, but when you’re up against the top seed, you need to look for ideas in odd places to keep a series going.
Bouyea playing more minutes would be the true maverick move to throw the Thunder off balance, although Dillon Brooks, for example, has certainly done his job.
It seems too logical to not see what Bouyea is capable of in Game 4, considering that Grayson Allen is only just returning from injury and Collin Gillespie is having a difficult time in the postseason. Jordan, make the phone call.
