Ipswich Town have officially completed the signing of goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam, with the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Portman Road.

The Dutch goalkeeper becomes the latest addition to Gary O’Neil’s squad as the Tractor Boys prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Van Oevelen, who came through the youth ranks at boyhood club FC Volendam, made 32 appearances in the Eredivisie last season and recorded three clean sheets.

Speaking after completing his move to Ipswich Town, Van Oevelen revealed that he was eager to make the switch as soon as he learned of the club’s interest.

“As soon as I knew Ipswich were interested, it was a move I knew I wanted to make,” Van Oevelen said.

“I’m excited to be here, to continue my career in England and to learn from everyone at a big club like this.

“It is an exciting time for this club, being back in the Premier League, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started.”

Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil also welcomed the arrival of the young goalkeeper, believing he will add strength to the club’s goalkeeping department.

“We are pleased to be able to add him to our goalkeeping unit,” O’Neil said.

“He is a young goalkeeper, who has had a good taste of senior football in Volendam, and wants to continue to progress his career in England.

“He joins a good goalkeeping group at the club and he will strengthen us in that area of the pitch.”

Van Oevelen is expected to join up with his new Ipswich Town teammates at the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain later this week.

The goalkeeper’s arrival marks another step in Ipswich’s preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign as O’Neil continues to strengthen his squad.
