The Detroit Lions are heading into the playoff with some positive news, despite facing a season marred by injuries. With a strong 13-2 record, the Lions have already secured a playoff spot. However, they will face the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, December 30, in a significant rematch. The Lions were defeated by the 49ers in last season’s NFC Championship game, making this upcoming game an emotional one.

In terms of injury updates, the Lions are receiving favorable news. Their Week 17 injury report is surprisingly light, which is a positive development after weeks of worrying injuries. The report is relatively unchanged, with David Montgomery and Kalif Raymond listed as out, while Jalen Reeves-Maybin is questionable. Terrion Arnold and Graham Glasgow are not listed with any injury designations.

Montgomery, recovering from an MCL injury in his knee, is hopeful to return for the playoffs, though he hasn’t been placed on injured reserve. Glasgow, who missed last week’s game due to a knee issue, is expected to return for Week 17 and start at left guard, as confirmed by head coach Dan Campbell.

Despite an extensive list of players on injured reserve, the Lions are optimistic, with many potentially returning during the playoffs. Campbell shared his thoughts on the team’s progress, noting that the injury news has been much more encouraging in recent weeks.

Reflecting on the past, Campbell admitted that the NFC Championship loss to the 49ers still lingers in his mind. He spoke candidly about how impactful that defeat was for him and the team. “Just like my second year in the league, when we lost to Baltimore in the Super Bowl, I won’t forget that either. Those losses stick with you,” Campbell said. “We didn’t do enough. But you learn from every experience, especially the losses. That’s often the hardest but most valuable way to learn.”
