Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions had a remarkable regular season, finishing with a 15-2 record and securing the top seed in the NFC. However, their playoff run ended prematurely when they were defeated by the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round. Despite the early exit, Goff has shifted his focus to an exciting off-field project. Taking to social media, he shared news of a significant investment. “I’m excited to be part of an incredible group of leaders aiming to bring a WNBA team back to Detroit!” Goff wrote. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our community and our passionate fanbase!”
Goff is joining an investment group led by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores, which is working on a bid to bring the WNBA back to Detroit. Other notable investors include NBA legends Grant Hill and Chris Webber. Detroit’s last WNBA team, the Detroit Shock, played from 1998 to 2009 before relocating to Tulsa and ultimately becoming the Dallas Wings. The Shock were highly successful during their time in Detroit, winning three league championships in 2003, 2006, and 2008. With the increasing popularity of the WNBA, fueled by stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, figures like Goff are eager to get involved.
