Ipswich Town have reportedly revived their interest in Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, with the Blues emerging as one of the clubs to watch in the race for the highly rated Spanish forward.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Ipswich are among several clubs monitoring Guiu’s situation as Chelsea consider allowing the 20-year-old to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Guiu was previously linked with Ipswich following the club’s relegation to the Championship. However, the former Barcelona academy striker opted against playing in the second tier and instead joined newly promoted Sunderland on loan.

His spell at the Stadium of Light was cut short after Chelsea recalled him following an injury to former Ipswich striker Liam Delap. As a result, Guiu made just two appearances for Sunderland before returning to west London.

Reports from The Athletic indicate that Chelsea are open to either a loan or permanent transfer for Guiu before the summer transfer window closes. The Spaniard is attracting interest from several clubs in England and abroad.

Speaking on the London Is Blue podcast, Ben Jacobs named Ipswich as a club to keep an eye on.

“I think it’s not impossible that Marc Guiu is sold permanently. Sunderland are still interested, having had him on loan and then sent him back, but there’s other clubs as well. Ipswich could be another one to watch, and I’d heard that Fiorentina quite like the player too.”

Chelsea signed Guiu from Barcelona for around £5 million, and the Premier League club are expected to have little difficulty finding a new destination for the promising forward.

Would Marc Guiu Be the Right Fit for Ipswich?

Despite the transfer links, there are doubts over whether Guiu fits Ipswich Town’s recruitment plans.

The Tractor Boys recently broke their transfer record to sign 21-year-old striker Emersonn from Toulouse, suggesting the club is already investing in young attacking talent. If Ipswich pursue another centre-forward this summer, they may instead prioritise an experienced No. 9 who can provide leadership, consistency and proven goals.

While Guiu remains one of Europe’s exciting young prospects, a move to Portman Road may not be the most likely outcome as the transfer window progresses.
