The wait is finally over for Big Blue Nation: Milan Momcilovic is now a Kentucky Wildcat, and Mark Pope’s third-year team has soared up national boards and into serious, competitive discussions. The blue and white got a victory they badly needed in this recruiting after weeks of arguing with fans in Louisville and wasting time.
As Kentucky continues to work their way into elite talks (where they belong), guys on the roster have expressed their own enthusiasm for Momcilovic’s near-completion of the 2026-27 roster.
Nick Lazaroff posted a video with Malachi Moreno at the Great Crossing basketball camp, and freshman guard Mason Williams received thousands of likes for merely writing “How we feeling now bbn” on X.
Moreno mentioned the Momcolivoc pickup in the piece, expressing a confidence to the BBN that supporters should be delighted to hear from their hometown star.
A dangerous team from Kentucky.
“It’s great,” Moreno remarked about the acquisition. “He’s a shooter, the finest shooter in the country last year. ” He fits Pope’s offense perfectly, and we knew we needed it.
Leading the wing expert to average about 17 points per game on an Iowa State squad that defeated Kentucky en route to a second weekend appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season, Momcilovic’s 48. 7% metric from long range topped the NCAA.
Moreno said, “So, we’re going to be dangerous. ” All of Kentucky that seconds.
The offense will probably flow through Momcilovic regardless of where he plays in the starting lineup; the three and four places each have their own advantages. His adaptable skill on that side of the ball will enhance Kentucky’s guards, and Moreno should also have more space to operate as Momcilovic draws defenders out to the wing.
Momcilovic Improves This Team
Momcilovic is a guy that enhances this team in several ways. Regardless of where Kentucky places in official preseason rankings in the future (ESPN currently ranks the Cats at No. 17), Pope’s squad now has more weapons appropriate for his approach of play than before.
Not only has the head coach of Kentucky recovered a significant amount of goodwill with a fan base that was growing weary of recruiting blunders, but he has also given his SEC rivals concrete reasons to anticipate an increase in the Wildcats this season.
Many Kentucky supporters, like myself, don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, especially after last year, but the city of Lexington may be in store for the most entertaining basketball club they’ve seen in years. Until the fall, fingers will remain crossed, but all lights have changed from red to green.
