Shane Doan was one of the most well-liked players during his time in the NHL, so it was no surprise that the Toronto Maple Leafs appointed him to their front office, prompting other teams to consider him as a future general manager. Doan appeared to be happy with his work in Toronto, but the dismissal of Brad Treliving and the hiring of John Chayka indicated that he would move on, according to Pierre LeBrun via X, formerly Twitter.

“Shane Doan and the Leafs have split ways. His contract expired on June 30. It appears to be a mutual decision. Doan was acquired by former Leafs GM Brad Treliving. Doan recently interviewed in Vancouver. We’ll see where Doan lands, but he’s presently a free agent,” LeBrun stated.

Doan has some history with Chayka, since the Leafs’ new manager was the Phoenix Coyotes’ general manager when Doan was the captain. Chayka was the one who told Doan that he had no future with their company, prompting his retirement from the game. If the couple did not agree, it would have made little sense for Doan to stay.

For the time being, Doan is interested in joining other organizations, but he could also stay in Arizona and continue developing the game. Meanwhile, he will be cheering for his son, Josh Doan, who is competing against the Montreal Canadiens with the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
