Stephen A. Smith, an ESPN character, is in complete meltdown mode after the New York Knicks fell to a 2-1 deficit in their first-round playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. Smith is a vocal Knicks fanatic.
Condolences, Stephen.
An angry Smith is shifting blame everywhere except at the one source generating the most online attention: WWE star Danhausen’s curse.
Smith, who has openly criticized his beloved team’s flaws, delivered a scathing statement demanding accountability throughout the organization if the Knicks do not progress.
“Heads need to roll,” he said, pointing at everyone from the president and general manager to the coach, players, and even the dance squad.
Wild. However, he refuses to attribute any merit to the dreaded Danhausen curse. And he seemed to lose his mind after the WWE comedic performer teased him a little about his supernatural abilities.
“[Stephen A. Smith] APOLOGIZE and Danhausen would consider maybe possibly lifting your curse,” Danhausen tweeted. “Also send human money. “
Stephen A. Smith refuses to apologize as Danhausen’s curse plagues the Knicks in the playoffs.
Smith replied angrily. Man, this is setting up nicely for a great WWE feud and match between the two.
“I’m not apologizing for anything, [Danhausen]. ” Nothing at all,” Smith hissed. “Curse or no curse, the [Knicks] have NO RIGHT to lose this series to the [Hawks], no matter how excellent that young team is. ” No business. “
“If the Knicks lose this series, heads need to roll. Period. ” President! GM! Coach! Players! Even the damn Dance Team! “To hell with all that superstitious stuff,” he said.
The Knicks’ misfortunes have only heightened the strange feud that began when Danhausen visited First Take and cursed Smith.
They defeated the Atlanta Hawks 113-102 in game one of their first-round series. But perhaps that’s what makes the curse so powerful. So evil. So nice. Gives Knicks fans like SAS optimism.
Since then, New York has lost two straight, including a slim 107-106 setback in Game 2 at home and a painful 109-108 defeat in Game 3 on the road, in which they squandered late leads.
They now trail the series 2-1 heading into Game 4 on Saturday, and the “curse” has gone viral.
“The [Knicks] need to handle their damn business,” a terrified Smith said. “They better not lose this series, damnit. ” I swear they better not!
