The former head of recruiting for Sunderland has rejoined the sport at Championship team Stoke City.

In the months following Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’s takeover, Stuart Harvey joined the Black Cats as head of recruitment. The Northern Irishman went on to play a key role in the team that oversaw the club’s ascent from League One to the Premier League. Earlier in the season, Harvey quit his post as football director. The club’s recruitment strategy was revamped by Florent Ghisolfi, who is now back in football at the bet365 Stadium.

Harvey’s role at Stoke City is considerably larger than what he had at Sunderland. In a statement, Stoke City claimed that Harvey would, as technical director, ‘support the broad spectrum of the Club’s football operations including first team coaching and recruitment, research and analytics, football administration, medical and performance, women’s first team, and boys’ and girls’ academies’.

Jonathan Walters, the club’s Sporting Director, will be Harvey’s line manager.

“Stuart is a highly respected player in the game, and he played a much-valued role in Sunderland’s recent trip to the Premier League,” Walters stated.

Throughout his career, he has accumulated expertise and experience from several clubs and settings. Stuart has earned a solid reputation in the game and is aware of the level of precision and detail required to contribute to its success.

“Stuart’s arrival demonstrates our ambition and dedication to continue moving the Club forward and provide us with the best possible platform to be successful on the pitch, and this appointment is another important step as we continue to strengthen the football club in all areas,” the statement said.
