The took a unique approach to announcing ’s new long-term contract extension, and the move quickly went viral across social media.

Instead of having a national NFL insider reveal the news first, the Lions allowed passionate season-ticket holder and superfan Sweta Patel to announce Campbell’s four-year extension online. The post rapidly gained traction, generating more than one million views and sparking reactions throughout the NFL community.

Shortly after the announcement, other Lions season-ticket members received confirmation directly from Campbell in a video message.

“I signed my extension, I’m excited to be back,” Campbell said. “I’m excited to be here long-term. Now it’s time to go win a Super Bowl.”

NFL reporter praised the organization’s creative strategy on social media.

“One of the super-fans breaking the news to all of us. Very cool the team gave Sweta, who’s now going by her self-proclaimed alias ‘Sweta Schefter’, the honors! Touché.”

NFL analyst also highlighted the backstory behind the viral moment.

“Pretty cool back story here. Sweta is a die-hard Lions fan and one of the most vocal online. When Jack Campbell decided to sign his extension, he and the team thought it would be unique to let the fans know first.”

Campbell, selected 18th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, has quickly developed into one of Detroit’s defensive leaders. Despite criticism surrounding positional value when he was drafted, the former standout has become one of the league’s most productive young linebackers.

Through three NFL seasons, the 25-year-old has appeared in 51 games while recording:

  • 380 total tackles
  • 200 solo tackles
  • 8.5 sacks
  • 19 tackles for loss
  • 13 quarterback hits
  • 4 forced fumbles
  • 10 pass defenses
  • 2 fumble recoveries

Campbell also became just the fourth player in Lions franchise history to post at least 125 tackles in back-to-back seasons.

With veteran linebacker no longer on the roster, Campbell is expected to take on an even bigger leadership role for a younger Detroit defense entering the 2026 NFL season.

The Lions’ decision to involve a devoted fan in such a major announcement further strengthened the bond between the franchise and its passionate fanbase — and created one of the most talked-about NFL contract reveals of the offseason.
