The Australian conduit to Madison is now operating at full capability.

The Wisconsin Badgers have announced the signing of Isaac Riddle, a 6’8 forward from Golden Grove, Australia. Riddle will be the 14th scholarship player on the 2026-27 roster, completing a position that Greg Gard and his staff were reserving for an ideal fit.

While Riddle has an outstanding international background, viewers should regard him as a long-term development project rather than a Day 1 rotational regular.

The Scouting Report: Efficiency Over Volume

Riddle joins the Badgers from the Centre of Excellence (COE) in Australia’s NBL1 East League.

The most noticeable feature of Riddle is his methodical approach.

Finishing. During the 2025 FIBA Under-17 Oceania Cup, Riddle scored 14. 0 points per game, placing seventh in the entire competition, while shooting 67. 4% from the field (second-best in the tournament).

He is a fluid athlete for his size, capable of jogging the court and completing through touch. In a standout performance against Fiji, Riddle shot 10-of-13 from the field for 20 points, demonstrating a light touch near the rim that suits the traditional Badger frontcourt mold.

A Developmental Gamble

Wisconsin already had a roster of 13 players when he arrived, thus they weren’t looking for a starter. They were looking for a high-ceiling prospect they could afford to bring along slowly. Greg Gard’s remarks on the signing reflect this long-term strategy:

Isaac is one of Australia’s best young prospects, with exceptional potential as he progresses down his development path, according to Gard. It is an excellent time for us to recruit a bright star from his national team and assist Isaac in the next phase of his career.

At 6’8 and weighing around 200 pounds, Riddle will most likely spend his first year in Madison immersed in the strength and conditioning program. His overseas figures reveal a minor deficit in indoor physicality; despite his height and scoring productivity, he only grabbed 3. 0 rebounds per game during Oceania Cup play. His major issue before receiving substantial playing time is adapting to the physical aspect of Big Ten post play.

Rounding out the Oceania roster.

Riddle’s signing solidifies Wisconsin’s position as a top destination for talent from Oceania. He is the fifth player on the 2026-27 squad from Australia or New Zealand, alongside:

Austin Rapp (Australia).
Owen Foxwell (Australia)
Jackson Ball (New Zealand)
Hayden Jones (New Zealand).

Isaac Riddle is a wager on the future. By signing him immediately, Wisconsin gets a highly productive finisher with an international history before his value soars. Expect Riddle to focus on physical development during his redshirt freshman season, working alongside veterans such as Nolan Winter and other bigs like Victory Onuetu and Will Garlock, who are set to play a greater role this season while preparing for a larger role in 2027 and beyond.
