LSU designated hitter Cade Arrambide hit four home runs Sunday, breaking a school record and propelling the Tigers to a 16-6, 12-inning victory over Tennessee at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
LSU moved to 22-11 overall and 6-6 in the SEC, while Tennessee fell to 20-12 overall and 4-8 in league play.
Arrambide went 5-for-6 on the day, including four home runs and seven RBI, setting a new LSU record for most home runs in a single game. His grand slam at the top of the 12th inning capped a 10-run LSU barrage that shattered a 6-6 tie.
The Tigers will return to action at 6:30 p. m. on Tuesday, when they face Bethune-Cookman at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.
“That victory is certainly among the best in my coaching career,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “I mean, what a comeback by our team, I am so pleased of our players. So much went into what happened, with so many people making significant contributions to the victory.
“What a special performance by Cade Arrambide, and so many players made crucial plays. This is vital to them since we have battled a lot here recently, making this weekend ideal for our program. “
Gavin Guidry (4-3), a LSU reliever, earned the victory for the Tigers by pitching the final 5. 1 innings and restricting Tennessee to one run on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
Volunteers reliever Brayden Krenzel (1-3) was blamed with the defeat after surrendering the first run of the Tigers’ 12th inning.
Tennessee took a 5-0 lead by scoring five unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning, taking advantage of three LSU mistakes. The onslaught was capped off by left fielder Blaine Brown’s grand slam, his ninth home run of the year.
Arrambide hit a solo shot in the fifth inning, his fifth home run of the year, reducing the lead to 5-1.
The Tigers scored three runs in the seventh inning thanks to three consecutive solo home runs by third baseman John Pearson, Arrambide, and second baseman Seth Dardar.
The sequence was the first time LSU has homered in three consecutive plate appearances since May 9, 2023, when Tommy White, Cade Beloso, and Hayden Travinsky all homered in a row against Northwestern State.
LSU knotted the game in the top of the ninth when right fielder Jake Brown hit a two-out RBI single.
The Tigers grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th when Arrambide hit his third home run of the game, but Tennessee tied the game again when catcher Levi Clark blasted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.
