Following the Miami Heat’s defeat to the Charlotte Hornets in the play-in round, the team is facing a crucial offseason in terms of which players to keep, walk, or perhaps trade for a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo. As rumors circulate around the Heat and Antetokounmpo, there are other players on the team whose futures are unclear, including star Andrew Wiggins.
Though Wiggins refused to speak during voluntary media availability following exit meetings last week, he did address his contractual status with The Miami Herald. Wiggins is entering a thrilling offseason with a $30. 2 million player option.
If he exercises it, he will remain on Miami’s books for one more season; otherwise, he will become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, with June 29 being the deadline for Wiggins to decide. Wiggins will be questioned if he has reconsidered his choice.
“Not yet,” Wiggins said. “Me and my agent will get together whenever the season is over and figure it out. But I adore Miami. I enjoy being here. “
“I don’t really know how to feel about it,” Wiggins remarked when asked about the possibility of becoming a free agent. “I’ve never truly experienced it. ” I’m starting year 13. It would be interesting. It would be something I haven’t done before that I get to do. “
Andrew Wiggins discusses his experience with the Heat
Wiggins has been productive for the Heat since being traded from the Golden State Warriors in the Jimmy Butler deal, serving as a terrific two-way complement to players such as Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.
“Everyone has been wonderful to me,” Wiggins stated. “From the organization to the supporters and the city. And simply playing winning basketball. Being a part of a team that genuinely cares for the players constantly wants the best for them. They are quite straightforward and all about winning.
Last season, Wiggins averaged 15. 4 points, 4. 8 rebounds, and 2. 7 assists per game, while shooting 47. 5% from the field and 41. 4% from three-point range. It remains to be seen what decision Wiggins makes.
