The Phoenix Suns witnessed the best of Dillon Brooks in 2025-26, although his NBA colleagues disagree.
As the playoffs progressed, The Athletic released its anonymous NBA player survey, which asked who the league’s most overrated players were, and Brooks received numerous votes.
Alperen Sengun was the top vote-getter, receiving 12. 3% of the total votes, while Rudy Gobert and Trae Young were tied for second with 8. 6%. Karl-Anthony Towns, Paolo Banchero, and Ja Morant complete the top half of vote-getters for the category.
Among other luminaries, Brooks received 2. 5% of the vote alongside Tyrese Haliburton, Tyler Herro, Evan Mobley, Brandin Podziemski, and Domantas Sabonis.
Jordan Ott, the Suns’ coach, did, however, receive some live votes in the coaching category in the same study. More information may be found here.
Last season, Brooks averaged a career-high 20. 2 points per game while assisting in the development of a new sense of identity and culture, making him an important piece of the puzzle for a Phoenix squad looking to reach greater heights next year.
I expect Dillon Brooks to be here. We want Dillon Brooks to be here, whether it’s as an extension. How do we accomplish that? Suns owner Mat Ishbia asked during the team’s end-of-season news conference.
How can we make him want to be here for a long time? And I believe he does. I know he does, in fact, let me put it that way, and we just have to figure out how to make it all work. So, yes, I anticipate to discover a method to keep Dillon long term, because I believe him to be a component of a championship club here in Phoenix for the next three to four years.
Brooks embraced the Villain mentality last season and swiftly gained Suns supporters with his energy. Despite the fact that technological fouls can occasionally be a problem, Phoenix accepts the positive with the bad when it comes to Brooks.
He’s one of the few players in the league who is just that—not because of his raw ability or scoring, but because of his role in the Suns’ puzzle in a year in which they smashed all preseason predictions and expectations.
While Brooks is unlikely to be an All-NBA performer, it is intriguing to see him rated as overrated, especially since he is coming off his finest year in the league, particularly by his colleagues.
