Veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He apparently has a few NFL teams interested in his services, but he appears to be excited by the prospect of returning to the Green Bay Packers.
When Packers Report reporter Easton Butler questioned Douglas if he would want to return to Green Bay the following season, Douglas referred to the Packers as “home. “
Douglas played for the Packers for sections of three seasons, 2021-23. At the 2023 NFL trade deadline, Green Bay exchanged the seasoned cornerback to the Buffalo Bills.
Over the past two and a half seasons, he has played with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. But Douglas’ 28 appearances for the Packers are the most he has made for a single NFL team.
Could Rasul Douglas rejoin the Packers in 2026?
Butler reported that the Packers are one of a few clubs interested in Douglas this offseason. No other NFL insider has validated or refuted the allegation.
Douglas might be considered for a comeback to Green Bay to provide the Packers with additional veteran depth at cornerback.
However, during NFL free agency, Green Bay signed cornerback Benjamin St-Juste. The Packers selected cornerback Brandon Cisse with their first pick, No. 52 overall, in the 2026 NFL Draft. On Day 3, the squad added cornerback Domani Jackson at No. 201 overall.
The Packers most likely do not want to impede the development of one of their young defensive backs.
However, bringing back Douglas has the potential to improve Green Bay’s performance this season, something the team should strive for. The Packers will be hoping to end their three-game playoff losing streak in 2026.
The Packers ranked 11th in pass protection in 2025. The defense performed admirably in most categories versus the pass, but it only made seven interceptions. That ranked 28th in the league.
Douglas has intercepted 21 passes in his NFL career. During the 2021 season, he had a career-high five selections for the Packers. Douglas returned two of those interceptions for scores.
During 2023, he had five interceptions, one for Green Bay and four for Buffalo.
Douglas began his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The NFC East club selected Douglas at number 99 overall in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Douglas played more games with the Eagles than with the Packers, however he started more contests in Green Bay.
In 135 games, Douglas had 503 total tackles, including 25 stops for defeat. In addition to his 21 interceptions, he has 92 pass defenses and three sacks.
