LSU offered some wonderful news about quarterback Sam Leavitt on Thursday.
According to LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, Leavitt is expected to be completely recovered from a foot ailment this summer. He told On3’s Wilson Alexander the news.
Leavitt is expected to have no restrictions when the Tigers begin preseason training later this summer.
Leavitt began his college career at Michigan State, where he spent the 2023 season before transferring to Arizona State for the following two seasons. In 2024, he had his best season, helping the Sun Devils reach the College Football Playoff with 2,885 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
He’ll now attempt to return to that level in Baton Rouge, with Kiffin serving as his head coach. Leavitt was one of the finest quarterbacks in the transfer market this winter before committing to LSU.
Leavitt is expected to be LSU’s starting quarterback in 2026, as the team seeks to advance from its 7-6 record last season. Brian Kelly’s fourth season as head coach was the 2025 season, however he was dismissed after eight games. Frank Wilson served as interim head coach for the final five games of the season until LSU recruited Kiffin.
Lane Kiffin’s reign will begin with a important match against Clemson on September 5. It will be a great test for LSU in Kiffin’s first game before the team faces Louisiana Tech on September 12. Kiffin will return to Oxford on September 19 for the LSU-Ole Miss game.
