The Florida State Seminoles are still struggling with the same issues that have plagued them for the past year or so. While Head Coach Mike Norvell has enjoyed recruiting triumphs, he has also suffered numerous setbacks. A major reason for that is the terrible performance on the pitch. We’re noticing this play out more and more.

Just recently, the Seminoles were competing for a high-level recruit, and it looked like they had the victory sealed. At the last second, circumstances changed, and they lost the war. Last week, FSU missed out on four-star cornerback Chase Johnson. In the end, he chose Virginia Tech over FSU and Georgia. Not long ago, Johnson informed everyone that FSU was leading the race.

“Right now I say they’re number one,” Johnson told Warchant. com. “They gave me a tour, I could tell they really wanted me more,” Johnson said. “They showered me with a lot of love back then. But I can say that Coach Ris [Devin Rispress] gave me a wonderful tour. It was a pleasant experience. “

Johnson was also hotly pursued by Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Miami, Oregon, and Penn State. The 5’11, 170-pound corner back possesses characteristics that many blue blood schools desire, including Florida State. FSU was unable to complete the transaction for the second time.

Seminole recruitment appears to be getting worse each year under head coach Mike Norvell.

Since the Seminoles’ historic 2023 season, things have not been the same. They have won 13 games and feature a strong starting quarterback. You might claim that they would have won the National Championship. Following a fantastic season, the Seminoles got a top-12 recruiting class for 2024. It appeared that the only way was upward. We couldn’t have been more mistaken, as the Seminoles only won two games the following year.

After that awful season, FSU concluded with a 20th-ranked recruiting class for 2025. Their 2026 was slightly better, placing 15th. However, their 2027 class is currently placed 36th, with only six overall commitments. Now, National Signing Day is still a long way away, but many of the top schools in the class already have at least 20 pledges.

Norvell has had some wonderful experiences as the Seminoles’ head coach. But he has also experienced some extremely difficult situations. If FSU has a terrible 2026 season, we might see a new coach take control in 2027. And then, the majority of this recruiting activity might be completely useless. That’s most likely why Johnson eventually chose not to attend FSU.
