Emotions soared after Florida’s drama-laden run-rule setback to Texas Tech in Game 3 of the Gainesville Super Regional.

Tensions arose throughout the weekend after former Gator Mia Williams was hit by Florida ace Keagan Rothrock five times over the three-game series, including the first pitch of both Game 1 and Game 3. After Williams was hit in the first inning on Sunday, Texas Tech’s Veronica Valdez was spotted shouting at Rothrock from the dugout.

“There has never been a problem, kids switch all the time,” Florida coach Tim Walton said following Sunday’s game.

In Game 3, following Williams’ two-run home run in the second inning, the umpires issued Texas Tech a warning.

Throughout Sunday’s winner-take-all battle, emotions ran high between both sides and the fans at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Walton was ejected in the fifth inning, which he described as unexpected.

Walton stated, “I’ve never been thrown out like that without warning before. ” “So that struck me as a little odd. “

Following Florida’s season-ending defeat, the Gators returned to the locker room after their customary “It’s Great to be a Florida Gator” song, without shaking hands with the Red Raiders. Texas Tech players rejoiced in front of the Florida fans, displaying their “Guns Up” hand symbol, eliciting angry responses from spectators on the field.

Greg Rothrock, father of Florida pitcher Keagan Rothrock, got into a verbal argument with a Texas Tech fan as spectators exited the stadium.

After the game, Walton stated that none of Williams’ hit-by-pitches were intentional.

“It makes no sense to me whatsoever,” Walton said. “There is no room for it at all. “

Gerry Glasco, the coach of Texas Tech, lauded Williams for how she dealt with the controversy during the series.

“When they pitched to her, she accepted the challenge and hammered it out,” Glasco stated. “She overcame every obstacle that came her way. “

The excitement surrounding Williams’ homecoming to Gainesville began well before Super Regional weekend. Williams moved from the team after two seasons with the Gators, following Florida’s two-game exit at the 2025 Women’s College World Series.

Both of Williams’ parents, Jason and Denika Williams, were former Florida athletes. Prior to the series, Denika Williams went on Facebook to blast Walton and Florida’s pitching staff.

“And here’s some advice: stop hiring 18 shortstops. ” “GO GRAB A PITCHER!!!!! ,” Williams stated.
