Jerone Morton, a point guard from Washington State, has committed to the Kentucky Wildcats.
The announcement was made by UK Sports Network on Wednesday.
Morton, a Lexington native, attended George Rogers Clark High School and was a member of their 2022 Sweet 16 Championship team, finishing runner-up the next year. He was an unranked class of 2023 recruit who committed to Morehead State. The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder transferred to Washington State after two seasons.
Last season, Morton averaged 7. 8 points on 43. 8% shooting (38. 7% from three-point range), 2. 6 assists, and 1. 9 rebounds in 25 minutes per game. He also had an 82% charity stripe rate on 1. 9 attempts per game.
Morton shot a scorching 48. 1% from beyond the arc in 18 games of West Coast Conference action, making 25 of 52 attempts. In his previous eight games, he has made 13 of 21 3-point attempts, which is a 61. 9% success rate.
In two games against Gonzaga, Morton tallied 31 points on 10-for-18 shooting (5-for-9 from beyond the arc), including six total assists and two turnovers.
Morton played significant minutes as a shooting guard at Washington State, occasionally switching to the wing, but in his previous season at Morehead State, he played more at point guard.
Morton averaged 10. 4 points on 45% shooting (37. 7% from three-point range), 3. 4 assists, 3. 2 rebounds, and 1. 3 steals in 29. 5 minutes per game with the Eagles in the 2024-25 season.
247 Sports ranks Morton 315th overall and 58th among point guards, with a 3-star rating.
Kentucky now has much-needed backcourt depth and an emergency point guard option if Alex Wilkins and Zoom Diallo get into foul problems.
