According to On3’s Joe Tipton, former Furman guard Alex Wilkins has committed to Kentucky. After a breakout freshman season, the transfer guard has three years of eligibility left.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 17. 8 points, 2. 0 rebounds, and 4. 7 assists in 35 starts for Furman during the 2025-26 season. He accomplished this while shooting 46% from the floor and around 33% from the three-point range.

Alex Wilkins was not ranked out of high school and attended Furman after graduating from Brooks School in Massachusetts. It did not take long for everyone to recognize that he was a genuine difference-maker in college basketball.

This summer, he was rated No. 30 in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings and No. 9 among shooting guards. So far this cycle, he has been Kentucky’s highest-ranked transfer recruit.

Wilkins joins point guard Zoom Diallo as Mark Pope’s second significant backcourt addition for the Wildcats. The two will now test themselves in the SEC, as Kentucky seeks to fill out the remainder of the team around a strong combination.

Kentucky has a lot more work to do as it creates the 2026-27 squad, with rotational players Trent Noah and Kam Williams slated to return, along with backup center Reece Potter. Malachi Moreno, on the other hand, will explore the NBA Draft before making his final decision. Redshirt rookie Braydon Hawthorne is expected to return, but has not made an official statement about his intentions.

The only incoming freshman now committed to the Wildcats is Mason Williams, the son of newly appointed assistant coach Mo Williams. He is rated as a three-star prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings for 2026.

Mark Pope’s squad finished with a 22-14 overall record, including a 10-8 mark against the SEC. The Wildcats’ season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after losing to Iowa State, despite defeating Santa Clara in the Round of 64.
