Ja Morant, a standout player for the Memphis Grizzlies, continues to make waves after a difficult 2025-26 campaign.
This season, the 26-year-old suffered calf soreness and a UCL sprain in his left elbow, restricting him to just 20 appearances. Morant averaged 19. 5 points, 3. 2 rebounds, and 8. 1 assists in those appearances.
Without their top player, the Grizzlies finished 13th in the Western Conference with a 25-57 record. His future with the team is unclear following a turbulent last three years marked by controversy.
Morant and Catch12, his media and commercial business, bought a minority position in the French professional basketball team Levallois Metropolitans. The move represents a clear attempt to broaden his influence outside the NBA. Morant discussed the investment, according to ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly.
I’m pleased with how this first season with the Metros is progressing, he added. They symbolize the culture, just as we do. I like what we’re creating, and I hope we can take it into NBA Europe.
The NBA and FIBA have moved closer to an agreement to form a professional basketball league in Europe. Paris is a priority market, with a goal launch date of 2027. Morant appears to be eager to play a part in that future, whether on or off the court.
The investment comes at a critical time for the two-time All-Star. Morant was suspended for 25 games at the start of the 2023-24 NBA season after displaying a weapon online.
Injuries and conduct issues have characterized the two seasons since then. Over the last three campaigns, Morant has only appeared in 79 games.
Memphis attempted to trade Morant before this year’s deadline, but no teams were willing to give up assets to get him.
A departure seems inevitable this offseason. Morant’s ownership in the Metropolitans indicates that he already has ideas for his future career.
