Despite a turbulent 2025–26 season, Memphis Grizzlies standout Ja Morant is still making waves.
Due to a UCL sprain in his left elbow and calf pain, the 26-year-old was only able to play in 20 games this season. In those games, Morant averaged 19. 5 points, 3. 2 rebounds, and 8. 1 assists.
With a 25-57 record, the Grizzlies came in 13th in the Western Conference, despite the absence of their greatest player. The future of his relationship with the team remains uncertain after a tumultuous and contentious last three years.
Morant is now concentrating on the now, making moves to increase his profile outside of the court.
Morant and his media and business venture firm, Catch12, purchased a minority stake in the Levallois Metropolitans, a French professional basketball team. The action indicates a conscious effort to expand his presence outside the NBA. The investment per Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints was mentioned by Morant.
He said, “I’m thrilled with how this inaugural season with the Metros is turning out. ” They reflect the culture in the same way that we do. I’m happy with what we’re creating, and I hope we can bring it to NBA Europe.
To create a professional basketball league in Europe, the NBA and FIBA have made progress toward a partnership. With a planned launch date of 2027, Paris is one of the prioritized markets. Whether on the court or not, Morant seems determined to play a part in that future.
For the two-time All-Star, the investment is at a crossroads. After brandishing a pistol online, Morant was given a 25-game suspension by the NBA at the start of the 2023–24 season.
Since then, the two seasons have been characterized by injuries and behavior issues. Morant has only played in 79 games throughout the last three seasons.
This year’s deadline saw Memphis try to trade Morant, but they were unable to locate any teams willing to give up any of their assets in order to get him.
A departure seems inevitable this offseason. Morant seems to be planning his future career based on his ownership stake in the Metropolitans.
