Texas Tech is aiming for a top haul in the 2027 recruitment cycle. Another essential component to the jigsaw became public with his commitment on Monday.

Baltimore St. Frances Academy five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney unexpectedly pledged to the Red Raiders, providing head coach Joey McGuire and Co. their second five-star commitment this cycle. Sweeney is just returned from a spring vacation to Lubbock.

“My Texas Tech visit was great! ” Sweeney told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “Coach McGuire has established and developed a championship culture, and his staff is elite. Over the previous five months, I’ve built genuine connections with Coach (Jacquies) Smith and GM Mr. Blanchard, and I can see why Texas Tech will soon be contending for a national championship. “

With Sweeney on board, Texas Tech has climbed three places in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and currently possesses the nation’s No. 2 class. The Big 12 program outperformed USC, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.

The class now has seven commitments. McGuire & Co. are just getting started.

The Red Raiders have four top-50 candidates in contention.
It all began in October, when TTU received an early commitment from Cedar Hill (Texas) five-star plus+ defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, the country’s No. 1 overall recruit. Keeping him in the mix will be a challenge, as Florida is among those actively seeking him.

Kavian Bryant, a four-star quarterback from Palestine, Texas, committed to the in-state institution one month after Brewster. He will strive for five-star rating and is presently the cycle’s No. 2 quarterback. Later that month, Humble (Texas) Summer Creek four-star wide receiver Benny Easter Jr. , Rivals’ No. 22 overall prospect and No. 3 WR, committed.

“Everything is going well with Tech and what they’re building,” Easter said to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman last month. “They made the playoffs this year but fell short. We have a lot of firepower coming in my class, as well as the class entering this year, and the program that is on the way. They’re eager to take on anyone and everyone. “

Two more blue-chip in-state defensive prospects are included in the class. Lake Dallas (Texas) four-star defensive lineman K’Adrian Redmond and Houston Langham Creek four-star linebacker Jhadyn Nelson are ranked 16th among their positions. Redmond has been attending the class since September.
