In terms of the 2028 recruiting cycle, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are just starting to dip their toes in the water. Joey McGuire and his staff are working hard even though they haven’t made any commitments yet.

They have taken notice of a few of the class’s best athletes, such as Jalanie George, who plays the EDGE position. At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, the sophomore pass rusher is from Goodyear, Arizona.

He has become one of the most in-demand players in the cycle. George is listed by the Rivals Industry Rankings as a five-star recruit, the top EDGE, the best player in Arizona, and the fourth-best player overall.

The Red Raiders have a great track record of recruiting top-tier pass rushers. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and five-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney have committed to the 2027 cycle.

They want to maintain the trend. George declared on Tuesday that he had received an offer from Texas Tech.

“After a fantastic talk with @Coachjacsmith, I am fortunate to have my 40th D1 offer from @TexasTechFB @AZcoachHenri @DEdgeFootball,” he said in an X post.

He had a fantastic 2025-26 season at Desert Edge High School. He had two pass deflections, one fumble recovery, 6. 5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and 54 total tackles in 11 games.

The Red Raiders are joining the conflict late, even if they still have two more entire years of high school. Several of the best programs in the nation have already extended offers to George, including the Texas A&M Aggies, USC Trojans, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana Hoosiers, and Ole Miss Rebels.

A favorite is now evident as well. The Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machines indicate that Ole Miss currently has the greatest probability (21. 5%) of securing the pass rusher’s commitment. If Texas Tech wants to win, it needs to close the gap.
