It was reported yesterday that Lamont Paris has added Badger legend Sam Dekker to his South Carolina coaching staff. Dekker’s transition to coaching always felt unavoidable, but many anticipated that, like Brad Davison, it would begin at Wisconsin. However, Lamont Paris, a former Wisconsin assistant, provided the first opportunity.

That relationship helped Dekker make the transition from an international professional career to coaching. Dekker spoke with Karley Marotta of TMJ Channel 4 to discuss his decision. He stated that he had to leave the game before losing his ability to completely play it. I am pleased that I am quitting the game before it abandons me as a player.

He then discusses his bond with Paris and why the chance to join the South Carolina staff has a Wisconsin flavor to it. He feels like he had unfinished business when he left Madison unwritten, and he is looking forward to teaming up with Paris to attempt to reclaim those objectives for the Gamecocks.

Sam Dekker stated that his experiences as a Wisconsin Badger inspired his decision to join the Gamecocks.

Dekker is plainly eager to get started and has a wealth of experience to draw on. He was more than just a skilled player at all levels; he is a coach’s son who understands how to grow and assist young players.

However, Wisconsin is still on his mind, since I felt like when I departed school, I left with food on the table. I departed with a year of eligibility, having failed to win a national championship, making two Final Fours, but never completing the task. So I feel like Lamont and I have some unresolved issues because the previous time we were together was sad.

Wisconsin supporters agree that the last time they saw Dekker in a Badger jersey, it seemed incomplete and incomplete. There was sadness. And now, it’s bittersweet to watch him on a different sideline, but I appreciate the chance that has been given to him.

The good news is that South Carolina is a member of the SEC, so the paths will rarely cross. Dekker can still cheer for the Badgers from afar, and if the routes ever cross, he will have a difficult time keeping the Badger within. Finally, and hopefully, Dekker will be on the sidelines in Madison.
