According to ESPN, Petzing’s arrival in Detroit could have the biggest impact on the Lions next season as the team looks to revive its offensive identity following an inconsistent 2025 campaign.

Petzing replaces former offensive coordinator after just one season and arrives from the , where he built one of the NFL’s most efficient rushing attacks.

Under Petzing, Arizona ranked second in the NFL in rushing average during his three-year tenure, including back-to-back top-two finishes in yards per carry in 2023 and 2024. He also helped develop star tight end into a two-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro selection.

In 2025, McBride led all NFL tight ends with 126 receptions and 1,239 receiving yards while tying for the league lead in touchdown catches among tight ends. His 126 receptions also set a new NFL single-season record for a tight end.

Now, Petzing takes over a loaded Detroit offense featuring quarterback , tight end , star receivers and , along with explosive running back .

Despite averaging 28.3 points per game in 2025, the Lions struggled at times to establish consistency offensively outside of explosive plays. ESPN believes Petzing’s scheme and rushing expertise could help Detroit regain its dominance in the trenches and potentially build the NFL’s most dangerous offense heading into 2026.
