The Detroit Lions are focused on improving during the offseason after a disappointing conclusion to their 2024 season. Following an unexpected early playoff exit, the team is determined to bounce back in 2025. While their roster is mostly solid, acquiring a strong pass rusher alongside Aidan Hutchinson should be a key priority.
Myles Garrett, one of the league’s top pass rushers, recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. The Lions are an obvious fit for Garrett, given his desire to play for a contender.
NFL insider Albert Breer discussed the situation on the Dan Patrick Show, expressing his excitement about the possibility of Garrett joining the Lions. “Detroit would be my favorite landing spot for Garrett,” Breer stated. “The team is in a position where they don’t necessarily need their first-round pick.”
Breer elaborated that Detroit’s roster is strong enough that only a few rookies are likely to make the team, so trading some picks could be beneficial. He added, “The thought of Myles Garrett opposite Aidan Hutchinson is extremely appealing. Detroit is in a championship window right now.”
Garrett had an impressive 2024 season with 14 sacks and a career-high 22 tackles for loss. Throughout his career, he has consistently posted double-digit sacks in seven out of eight seasons and has earned four first-team All-Pro selections along with six Pro Bowl nods.
A player like Garrett is a rare find, and as Breer noted, the Lions are in a prime position to contend. Although acquiring Garrett would be a challenge, his addition would certainly position the Lions as Super Bowl contenders in 2025.
